Completing your LL.B. is an important milestone. If you plan to become an advocate, the next step is enrolment with the Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC).
The process includes online registration, document submission, physical verification and appearance before the Enrolment Committee. This guide brings together the document checklist and practical tips to help you prepare.
Information checked in October 2026. Office arrangements, fees and stamp-paper requirements should be confirmed before applying.
1. Prepare Your Academic Documents
Make sure you have passed all LL.B. subjects and have the required university records.
| Document | What to prepare |
|---|---|
| SSLC/10th-standard marks card | Proof of date of birth |
| PUC/12th-standard, diploma or JOC records | Documents applicable to your educational background |
| Graduation marks cards and degree certificate | Required for applicants who completed a three-year LL.B. |
| LL.B. marks cards | All passed marks cards, arranged semester-wise |
| LL.B. degree certificate | University-issued provisional or convocation certificate |
| Address proof | Aadhaar, passport or voter ID |
| Attendance certificate | Obtain from your law college |
| SC/ST caste certificate | If applying under the relevant category |
| Passport-size photographs | Digital and printed copies |
Include supplementary examination marks cards needed to show that all subjects have been passed. ksbc.org.in
Also prepare your signature scan, payment receipts and course/conduct certificate where requested. Scan both sides of the law degree certificate. ksbc.org.in
2. Keep Employment-Related Documents Ready
If you previously worked in a private company or government organisation, carry supporting records such as appointment letters, service certificates, relieving orders or retirement documents.
If you were working while studying LL.B., keep your employer’s NOC ready, where applicable. The prescribed undertaking asks about employment during the course, attendance, simultaneous studies and criminal background. Complete these declarations accurately. ksbc.org.in
For applicants with a service background, KSBC also lists study certificates and retirement/relieving records among the additional requirements. ksbc.org.in
3. Register Online
Visit www.ksbc.org.in and select “Registration for New Enrollment.”
Keep your full name, mobile number, date of birth and email address ready. The registration form asks for the name in block letters as shown on the LL.B. provisional certificate. Use contact details you regularly check. ksbc.org.in
After registration:
- Log in using the credentials provided.
- Enter personal and academic details.
- Upload certificates, photograph and signature.
- Complete declarations and payment details.
- Review the application and submit.
- Download the application and all generated forms.
Check every entry carefully: the published guidelines warn that saved registration details cannot be changed. Resolve name differences across certificates before submission. ksbc.org.in
4. Prepare Your Photograph and Uploads
KSBC specifies a white shirt and black coat without advocate’s bands for the application photograph. ksbc.org.in
| Upload | Published specification |
|---|---|
| Photograph | 150 × 200 pixels; maximum 30 KB |
| Signature | 150 × 100 pixels; maximum 30 KB |
| Certificates | 60–100 KB; clearly readable |
Follow any revised limits shown in the live portal. Avoid blurred scans or documents with cropped edges. ksbc.org.in
5. Confirm Fees Before Payment
The published basic enrolment fees are ₹750 for General applicants and ₹125 for SC/ST applicants.
The online instructions also display totals of ₹2,850 and ₹2,225 respectively, including ₹2,100 towards e-stamp paper. Other KSBC pages list different additional amounts. Confirm the current itemised payment instructions before paying or preparing demand drafts, and retain every receipt. ksbc.org.in
6. Arrange the Correct Stamp Paper
Check the stamp-paper requirements separately for the enrolment certificate and any affidavit.
Enrolment Certificate Stamp Paper
The website’s enrolment instructions currently specify:
| Detail | Requirement shown |
|---|---|
| Value | ₹2,000 |
| Article | Article 17 |
| First party | Applicant’s name |
| Second party | KSBC |
The office-board photograph supplied for this guide shows ₹200 instead. Confirm the current denomination before purchasing, and ask whether your online payment already covers the e-stamp arrangement. ksbc.org.in
Affidavit for Applicants Around or Above 40
The online instructions specify a ₹100 e-stamp affidavit for applicants who have crossed 40. The annexure page uses slightly different age wording, so applicants at the threshold should confirm applicability. ksbc.org.in
The supplied affidavit format mentions ₹20. Check which denomination and format KSBC currently accepts. Read the employment, livelihood and proceedings declarations carefully before signing.
7. Prepare for Physical Verification After Online Submission
Do not stop after submitting the online application. Follow the current KSBC schedule and visit for physical verification with:
- Original educational certificates and marks cards.
- Printed application and generated forms.
- Affidavits, undertaking and supporting annexures.
- Identity/address proof and payment receipts.
- Employment documents, where applicable.
KSBC requires original documents for verification. Its instructions also require attestation of certificate and marks-card copies by the college principal, a notary or a gazetted officer. ksbc.org.in
Prepare all required attested hard copies in advance. These may be needed for verification with KSLU or the relevant university.
Based on the applicant experience shared for this guide, keep ₹100 ready for the verification-related fee, subject to confirmation at the counter, and retain the receipt.
8. Candidates Above 40: Prepare for a Panel Interview
Based on the applicant experience shared, candidates above 40 should prepare for a separate panel interview and attend when instructed.
Carry documents supporting your previous private-sector or government employment. If you worked during your LL.B., the panel may ask for an employer’s NOC and records explaining your study and employment arrangements.
Keep your educational and employment timeline clear so that you can answer questions accurately.
9. Print All Annexures Before Visiting
Mobile signal and internet connectivity can be poor inside the High Court premises, particularly within the State Bar Council office. Avoid depending on your phone to download missing documents after arrival.
Applicants have reported long queues for printouts, including at the High Court library. Notaries may be accessible nearby, but obtaining missing printouts can take time.
Print the application, affidavits, undertakings, annexures, receipts and supporting records before your visit. Keep digital copies downloaded for offline access as a backup.
10. Carry a Complete Duplicate Set
Keep an additional photocopy set of everything submitted to KSBC, along with scanned copies.
If submitted hard copies cannot be traced, a duplicate set can make follow-up easier. Keep your acknowledgement, application reference and receipts together so that you can identify your submission.
11. Follow Up on Your Application
Online submission does not mean verification is complete or that enrolment has been approved.
Check whether:
- Physical verification is complete.
- Any documents or corrections are pending.
- University confirmation has arrived.
- Your name appears in the relevant enrolment list.
Follow current office timings and verification notices when planning visits. Keep a note of instructions given about pending requirements.
Applicants Who Studied Outside Karnataka
Allow additional time if your qualifications were obtained outside Karnataka. Enrolment may remain pending until KSBC receives verification from the relevant board or university.
During follow-up, ask whether the response has arrived and whether its receipt can be checked in the inward register maintained at KSBC. This is a practical follow-up tip shared from applicant experience; office staff should guide access to the relevant record.
12. Attend the Enrolment Session
Once listed for enrolment, follow the current instructions for timing, venue and dress.
Applicants must appear before the Enrolment Committee, take the prescribed oath and sign the register. Complete the register-signing step, because KSBC states that enrolment remains incomplete without it. ksbc.org.in
13. Track AIBE and Certificate Updates
Follow the applicable All India Bar Examination (AIBE) and Certificate of Practice notifications separately.
KSBC’s current certificate-collection notice asks advocates collecting their original enrolment certificate to bring an AIBE result-sheet copy, two recent passport photographs and attend in formal advocate attire. Check the latest notice before visiting. ksbc.org.in
Before Leaving for KSBC
Keep one folder of originals, one set of attested copies for submission and one complete backup set. Confirm your fees and stamp paper, print every annexure, and check the latest office notice before travelling.
